Auckland Prison Hostage - Man to Appear in Court

1 min read

A 46 year old male will appear in the North Shore District Court tomorrow, on a charge of kidnapping, after an incident at Paremoremo Prison on Friday in which a Corrections Officer was held hostage for almost three hours.

North Shore's Acting Area Commander, Inspector Gary Davey, says the man will face further charges related to the incident.

"The ultimate rescue of the Corrections Officer was brought about by the high level of co-operation between Police and Corrections staff," Inspector Davey said.

Over the weekend Police have been at the prison to carry out an on site examination of the area and scene where the hostage was being held.
