1 min read

Feilding Police have today arrested a 26 year old Palmerston North man and charged him with seven counts of arson and one of theft.

The charges relate to a series of structural fires within the Central Business District of Feilding over the last six months.

The arrest follows an extensive police investigation, a feature of which has been the support of partner agencies during the enquiry.

The officer in charge of Feilding Police Station, Senior Sergeant Nigel Allan, said:

"The response to these fires has been community wide with partner agencies including the Fire Service, Feilding Promotions and the Council assisting in addressing fire safety issues within the Central Business District and supporting the Police investigation throughout.

“These fires have been a significant issue for our community and, while the investigation into these matters is ongoing, it is pleasing to have reached the point where charges have been laid."

The arrested man is to appear in the Palmerston North District Court tommorrow.
