Man charged following death of woman in Tauranga

1 min read

A 64-year-old man will appear at Tauranga District Court tomorrow morning charged with murder.

The arrest follows the death of a woman outside a residential address on Bell Street, Tauranga just before 2pm this afternoon.

Part of Bell Street remains cordoned off and a tent has been erected to preserve the scene for a forensic examination tomorrow. Once that examination is complete and the woman's body can be removed, a post mortem will be held to establish cause of death.

Although the scene remains under guard tonight Police have a process in place to provide any residents in the street access to their homes.

Police are still working to locate and notify the victim's next of kin and her details will not be released until that process is complete.
