Police identify offender for Indecent Assault in Tawa.

Porirua police have continued to investigate the sexual assault upon a 28 year old female, which occurred in Tawa last Monday (30 March) evening. The woman was out walking when she was grabbed from behind by a male.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said today, “The response from the public has been outstanding, with calls coming from as far away as Auckland. This indicates to me that the community feels strongly that this behaviour is intolerable.”

A 14 year old Tawa youth has been identified by police this afternoon as the person responsible for this assault.

“It is with some satisfaction that investigators working on this case have today, identified the person responsible.  I want to reassure the public that police do take the investigation of sexual complaints very seriously, and commend the work of the dedicated investigators,” Mr Ferguson said.

“The challenge for us now is to change this person’s behaviour, to prevent them re-offending in the future.” Mr Ferguson said.
