Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who attempted to rob the Discounter Dairy on Alford Forest Road, Ashburton, on Saturday 6 October.

Around 9.30am, the man is believed to have walked towards the dairy from Andrew Street, pulling a dark balaclava over his head as he approached the shops.

He then walked into the dairy and demanded money, while presenting a tyre iron.

His attempt was unsuccessful and he fled the store. He was last seen running north on Clark Street, then down the alleyway between Clark Street and Allens Road.

The man is described as a 20- to 25-year-old European. He is reportedly about 175cm tall, with a slim build and blond hair cut short back and sides. At the time of the incident he was clean shaven, and was wearing a dark blue long-sleeve sweatshirt, a white shirt, lighter-coloured skinny pants, and flat-soled shoes.

Police would like to hear from anyone who recognises this man or who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have seen anything.

Please email john.woolf@police.govt.nz, or you can share information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
