Name release – fatal Whanganui incident

1 min read

Police are now in a position to name the woman who died following an apparent hit and run in Whanganui yesterday.

She was 79-year-old Fay Lorraine Butler (also known as Fay O'Brien), of Whanganui East.

Police share their condolences with her family and friends at this sad time.

The investigation into the circumstances of this incident is continuing, and Police are grateful for information and CCTV footage received from the public so far.

We are still seeking any CCTV footage from the night of Tuesday 27 August from businesses and residences on Anzac Parade, or any sightings of Fay prior to the discovery of her body near the intersection of Anzac Parade and Helmore Street around 1:55am yesterday.

Indications from the initial stages of the investigation show it would have been extremely unlikely for the driver of the vehicle involved not to know a collision had occurred.

We are appealing for that person to do the right thing and come forward to speak to us.

Anyone who has information about this incident should call Police on 105 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
