At approximately 1.30pm today (Sunday, 11 October) emergency services were called to an incident in the Kaingaroa Forest, near Tiriti Road and Western Boundary Road.
The incident was in a remote area of bush, but accessible by vehicles. A hunting party was present at the location, a firearm had been discharged and one male was deceased.
The area is cordoned off and police are speaking to the other members of the hunting party and investigating the circumstances of the death.
No further information about the incident, or the person who has died, will be available today.
