Police are appealing for help to identify a rider who left behind more than just skid marks after failing to stop for Police in Stoke today.
The rider was seen on a green dirtbike travelling on Main Road Stoke about 11.20am without a helmet and without a visible number plate. When signalled to stop by Police, the rider allegedly failed to do so.
Community Constable Daryl Fenemor from Tasman Police says that during the incident, the rider allegedly pulled a wheelie before losing control of the bike, crashing and sliding along the road.
Fortunately, the rider appeared uninjured and was able to get back up and leave the scene.
"We didn't have an opportunity to check on the rider's welfare or obtain the rider's details," says Constable Fenemor.
However, in what can only be described as a modern-day Cinderella story, the rider appears to have left behind several clues, including a black Nike shoe (US size 14), a black and white New York Yankees cap, and pieces of green bodywork from the dirtbike.
"We would very much like to identify the owner of these items to ensure the rider is okay and to discuss the failure to stop for Police.
"If you recognise these items, or perhaps know someone who arrived home today missing a shoe, please get in touch."
