Serious Assault - Porirua

Police in Porirua are investigating the serious assault of two brothers on Mungavin Avenue early on Sunday morning.

On Sunday the 6th of December 2015 at about 3.00am, two men aged 34 and 47 were walking up Mungavin Avenue, near the the Mungavin Shops.  They had been to a work Christmas function earlier in the evening and were returning home.

Both men were approached by a group and set upon.  The two men managed to get as far as the intersection of Mungavin Avenue and Martin Road before they were knocked to the ground.  The group dispersed when Police were called.

Both men were taken to Wellington Hospital with head injuries.  The 34 year old man was released later in the day.  The 47 year old man is still on life support and remains in a serious condition.  He has undergone surgery to remove a clot on his brain.

Police have carried out a scene examination on Mungavin Avenue with ESR.  Tonight they are carrying out a detailed search of the area with the help of 20 recruits from the Royal New Zealand Police College.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen this assault take place or may have any information on the people responsible.  Anyone with information can contact the Operation Martin base on 2381400.
