The New Zealand Police Manual comprises all instructions and guidance in chapters for administrative and operational aspects of policing, including nationally consistent standard operating principles, practices, policies and procedures (sometimes referred to broadly as ‘policy’).

The current policies are published on this website and are proactively disclosed by Police to provide transparency and openness. For a small number of policies, some information has been redacted as Police considers disclosure would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation, and detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial. In determining availability, Police has been guided by the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982.

Police is likely to withhold the redacted information in response to a request made under the Official Information Act 1982. However, you are entitled to make such a request and may make it on our 'Request Information' page. It would assist Police’s consideration of your request if you stated the reason why you think the withholding ground may not be justified. We will then assess your request and respond within 20 working days.
