Fifteen of our dedicated patrol and detector dogs are putting their best paws forward in a new series of collectable dog cards.

The cards, featuring 10 patrol dogs and five detector dogs from throughout the country, are designed to give people a better understanding of the work our Delta teams do to help keep everyone safe, as well as providing some fun facts about these crime-fighting canine superstars.

For example, do you know which patrol dog made headlines for a great catch on only their second shift on duty… which detector dog has sniffed out more than $700,000 on the job… or which police dog likes nothing better than tucking into a cheeseburger after a job well done?

Handlers of the featured dogs have copies of their dog’s card to hand out to people and the cards will also be available at some of the many community and recruitment events police attend across the country. You can see all the cards in the series, below

National Coordinator Police Dogs Inspector Todd Southall says the featured dogs are representative of the incredible work being done by all our canine colleagues throughout New Zealand.

“We only pass the very best dogs with our handlers. They’re a valuable resource for Police in tackling crime and we know they’re really popular with large sections of our communities – young and old.

“So, it’s great to be able to celebrate the incredible work they do and the important role they have in New Zealand Police.”

Jess says the cards are already proving popular, with great feedback from districts and members of the public.

“Handlers are really excited to see their dogs and workgroup showcased in this way and they’re using the cards to help educate people about Police, which helps build trust and confidence.

“We’d love to feature more of our canines in future, and we’ve been really paw-leased to see the response, so all we’ll say is… Watch this space.”
