Man in court following stabbing

A 29-year-old man from the Wanganui area will appear in court this morning following a stabbing in Marton.

The incident occurred outside a hotel in Main Street, Marton just prior to 8pm when there was an argument between two men who are believed to know one another.

A 50-year-old local man received a single stab wound to the abdomen and is being treated at Wanganui Hospital. The injury is not believed to be serious.

Later in the evening a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in the Wanganui area. He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and threats to kill and will appear at Wanganui District Court today.

At this stage no knife has been recovered and anyone finding such an item, or anyone who has any relevant information about this incident, is asked to contact Detective Constable Brett Humphrey at Wanganui Police on 06 349 0600.
