Warning for driving tomorrow

1 min read

Watch for ice tomorrow

Be prepared for ice on Canterbury roads tonight and tomorrow as the weather clears, warn police.

Inspector Derek Erasmus says that the clear slush will probably make the roads icy especially in the morning so motorists, and pedestrians, should take extreme care.

"Get out and take a look at your drive and road outside before you drive off, to assess the situation," he advises. "The slush will keep the moisture on the roads with the potential to be incredibly icy."

Motorists are warned to drive to conditions, allow plenty of following distance and drive slowly.

"Be patient and take the advise of any road warnings. Listen to your radio to check road and weather conditions before you go out," he says.

NB

The temperatures tonight are predicted to drop below freezing with some snow still to sea level.
