Two Car Fatality Near Kumeu

Police are investigating the cause of a two car fatality near Kumeu on Saturday night.

Police say the crash happened on State HIghway 16, north of Kumeu, at about 7.45pm on Saturday 16 September 2006. On arrival at the scene the Serious Crash Unit found that two motor vehicles, a southbound Subaru, and a northbound Hyundai had collided head-on.

A 48 year old female, the driver of the Hyundai was killed in the crash. The Subaru's male driver is in Auckland Hospital with minor injuries. There were no other occupants.

Police say that alcohol and speed are not factors in this fatality.

Police investigations into why the southbound Subaru was on the incorrect side of the road when it collided head-on with the northbound Hyundai, are continuing.

Details of the deceased driver will not be released until all next of kin are informed.
