Man stabbed in Porirua East home invasion

1 min read

A 32-year-old man is in Wellington Hospital with multiple stab wounds after an overnight home invasion in Porirua East.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders, Waitangirua CIB, says police believe local Mongrel Mob members were involved in the incident but the motive is not yet known.

"The victim was at home with two young children when three to four men burst into the Calliope Street house and attacked him," Detective Sergeant Saunders says. "He was stabbed several times and is being treated for injuries to his head, abdomen and back."

Detective Sergeant Saunders says the victim fought off his attackers, injuring at least one of them, and managed to escape, fleeing to a neighbour's house from where police were called.

A police patrol found one of the alleged offenders hiding in nearby bushes. He's been arrested for assault. He's also been treated for minor facial injuries received during the struggle with the victim.

"We're still looking for two to three other men involved in the home invasion," says Detective Sergeant Saunders. "It appears they ran off along Calliope Street towards Iris Grove."

A scene examination is taking place at the Calliope Street house, which also had a lot of windows smashed during the incident.

People who have information about the incident are urged to call Detective Sergeant Saunders at Waitangirua Community Policing Centre. The direct dial number is telephone 439 0895. All information will be treated confidentially.
