Police concerned for missing 78-year-old Stokes Valley man

1 min read

Police search and rescue staff are looking for a 78-year-old Stokes Valley man who didn't return from a regular afternoon walk yesterday.

Graeme McNaughton is known to have left his Stokes Valley home at about 4pm yesterday.

He walks on most days on Stokes Valley Road and neighbouring streets and often walks up to the Buddhist Monastery off Rakau Grove.

Police search and rescue coordinator Sergeant Jo Holden says Police would like people in the Stokes Valley area to look around their property in case Mr McNaughton has become disorientated and perhaps attempted to find a short-cut home.

Mr McNaughton is described as Caucasian, approximately 5'8" tall and of slim build. He has silver hair and was possibly wearing glasses. He is thought to have been wearing dark clothing, casual shoes and possibly a dark jacket with a stripe down the side.

"We would like people who are traveling by bus and taxi drivers to look out for anyone who fits Mr McNaughton's description," she says.

Because of his age, police have concerns for his wellbeing having potentially spent a night outdoors.

A police dog was involved in searching areas close to his home last night. Today, several volunteer search and rescue staff are assisting with a wider search of the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Jo Holden on Tel: (04) 381 2000.
