One Person Seriously Injured in Coatesville Car Crash

The female driver of a Subaru station wagon is critically ill in Auckland Hospital after the vehicle she was driving was involved in a head -on crash with a Ute on the Coatesville -Riverhead Highway this morning.

Police say the crash happened at about 11.40am Friday 16 November 2007 on a down hill sector of the Highway near Coatesville. The Subaru Station Wagon has hit the Toyota Ute soon after. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The two drivers were the sole occupants.

The woman in the Subaru who is in her fifties has life threatening injuries. She's in the intensive care unit at Auckland Hospital after being transported from the scene by ambulance. The Highway is now open again after being closed for more than two hours. A scene examination has been completed by attending Police.

The male driver of the Toyota Utility has minor injuries and is at North Shore Hospital where he is also receiving medical attention. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and is seeking to talk to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash.
