Elderly woman indecently assaulted in West Auckland

1 min read

A 40 year old Auckland man is appearing in the Waitakere District Court today on sex related charges after a series of indecent assaults on an elderly woman in West Auckland.

The man has been charged with burglary, assault with intent to rape, and indecent assault [2] - All these offences carry a significant term of imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant Sean Hyland - Mills of the Waitemata CIB in Henderson says the man was arrested after the 76 year old victim notified police about the assaults which occurred over a six month period.

"Assaults such as these are particularly abhorrent because the offenders prey on the vulnerability of elderly woman who live alone," he said.

"Of immediate concern to us is the welfare of other elderly women in the Auckland region who may have also recently experienced a similar type of offending. We ask them or their relatives to contact us," Mr Hyland-Mills said.
