Waikato Police search for missing Auckland man

Waikato Police, assisted by civilian Search and Rescue volunteers, today recommenced the search for an Auckland man missing in bush between Waihi and Paeroa.

Sergeant Dave Litton of the Waihi Police said the search for Stephen Jensen, 47, of Howick began late yesterday in bush of Taiari Rd, Waitawheta.

"Mr Jensen was reported missing to Police by family on Monday after he failed to turn up to work.

"His car was found by friends about 5pm yesterday at the start of a series of walking tracks leading from the end of Taiari Rd. This area backs onto Karangahake Gorge and walking tracks leading to Mt Te Aroha."

Mr Litton said the search is being conducted by teams of Police and Search and Rescue volunteers in areas of thick native bush.

"The teams re-entered the search area early this morning."

"The last confirmed sighting we have of Mr Jensen was in Paeroa on Monday about 11:30pm."

Police are seeking information on any further sightings of Mr Jensen or his car, a gold coloured Toyota Echo hatchback, registration number ZT2990.

Anyone with information on Mr Jensen's whereabouts or sightings of his vehicle is asked to contact Sergeant Dave LITTON at the Waihi Police Station on 07 863 8179.
