Police have confirmed that woman who died as a result of a crash in the Lower Buller Gorge yesterday afternoon was Marie Evelyn Johnstone, aged 66, of Seddonville.
Mrs Johnstone was the driver of a van that was involved in a head on crash with a car on SH6. A 54 year old male passenger in her vehicle was transferred to Christchurch Hospital with head injuries.
The 60 year old female driver of the car suffered minor injuries and her 10 year old passenger was uninjured. They are both from the Westport area.
The crash happened on a two lane bridge. Weather at the time was overcast with light rain. A serious crash investigation is under way.
