Canterbury Police arrest two people following two aggravated robberies near Timaru

Canterbury Police were alerted at 4.45pm to an alleged aggravated robbery of the Timaru Post and Gift Shop in Highfield Mall today (18 February 2015).  At approximately 7.10pm a second aggravated robbery was reported at the BP Petrol Station in Fairlie.

At the second location witnesses reported seeing what may have been a firearm.

Shots were fired at a Police vehicle which was pursuing the fleeing vehicle the alleged offender was reported to be in.

Canterbury Police and AOS officers, dogs and handlers tracked the alleged offenders to an area near Pleasant Point where a female was arrested and a man arrested after a short pursuit on foot.

No one was injured during either robbery or during the subsequent arrests.

Police investigations are continuing.
No further information will be released tonight.
