A 27-year-old man has been convicted of an indecent act after pleading guilty in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.

The man's arrest followed two reports of suspicious approaches on Monday 6th August 2018 around the Cashmere area.

We are grateful for those in the community who provided information.

Incidents such as this have no place in our community and we will not hesitate to deal with anyone involved.

Incidents like this are a timely reminder for families to have discussions around behaviours and actions that are inappropriate or that make a child feel uncomfortable, rather than concentrating on the types of people that could harm them.

We understand that these types of incidents can cause a great deal of concern in the community, our message is to be alert, not alarmed.

Anyone who has an immediate concern for their safety should call 111 immediately.
