Wellington Police arrest 17-year-old male presenting knife overnight

Wellington Police have arrested a 17-year-old male who presented a knife to a number of people in the central city overnight. He will appear in the Wellington District Court today on charges of aggravated robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a knife in a public place and demands to steal.

As the male has made his way from Cuba Street to the waterfront he has presented the knife and demanded cell phones and money.

Detective Sergeant Mark Scott says "Members of the public who were approached by this male last night did the right thing by immediately contacting Police".

"An investigation is ongoing and we will be reviewing CCTV footage from the central city today".

"Police would like to hear from anyone else who may have seen this male or were approached by him".

Police are appealing for anyone who has information to contact Wellington Central Police on (04) 381 2000.
