Wellington Police pleased with Sevens crowd response

1 min read

New Zealand may have lost the NZI Sevens final but Wellington Police were extremely pleased with the crowd behaviour at Westpac Stadium today.

At the final whistle, 11 people had been arrested at the Stadium on finals day and 46 people arrested.

Inspector Simon Perry, Police operations commander, said the arrests were for disorder type offences and didn't detract from the overall crowd behaviour.

"We were extremely pleased with the way things went and the response we had from the crowd, people in the stands and corporate boxes," he said.

Overall, 26 arrests were made at the Stadium over the two days and 133 people evicted.

Police expect the city to be busy overnight as crowds flock to the entertainment venues.
