Christchurch police have released the name of the woman killed in an incident in Spreydon on Tuesday. She was Bronwyn Mary Sadler, aged 47, of Christchurch.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton says the deceased's family formally identified the victim this afternoon and the body has now been released to the family.

Investigations are continuing, with the post mortem conducted today, and the scene examination continuing at the Cobham Street address.

A 54 year old Christchurch man appeared in the District Court on Wednesday charged with the murder.

Meanwhile investigations are also continuing into the deaths this week of an elderly couple in Kaiapoi.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says post mortem examinations have been completed and a pathologist is in the process of preparing an interim report on the cause of death.

The scene at the Sidey Quay address was released overnight last night. Investigations are now focusing on interviews with family and persons who have had contact with the deceased, says Detective Senior Sergeant Hill.
