Arrest for attempted murder

Officers from the Wellington Police District Prison Investigation Unit have arrested a 47-year-old man for attempted murder.

Detective Constable Grant Mumby, Investigation Unit based at Upper Hutt, said the arrest on Friday follows an incident at Rimutaka Prison on Boxing Day. Police were called to Rimutaka Prison about 7.50pm after an inmate was stabbed several times with a knife during an argument.

The 47-year-old will appear in the Upper Hutt District Court at 10am on Wednesday, 14 January, charged with attempted murder.

The circumstances leading up to the incident are still being investigated by Police and the Department of Corrections, Rimutaka Prison.
