1 min read

A 30 year old male painter has appeared in the North Shore District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

The man has been granted interim name suppression. He's been remanded in custody until his next scheduled court appearance Friday 23 January 2009.

He entered no plea.

The charge arises from an incident in Redvale, Rodney, in which a 28 year old male was shot dead. Police went to an address at 10.50pm last night Monday 12 January 2009. On arrival they discovered the body of the deceased.

A firearm was found at the scene and has been seized by police.

Police remain at the address in Haigh Access Road, where ESR personnel will tomorrow continue their forensic scene examination of the house & property.

Police have this afternoon released the name of the deceased man.

He was:

ATKINS / Gene Patrick - aged 28 years

Single man / Concrete Layer / Resident of Orewa

Police have not ruled out further charges being considered, but say no decision will be made until all ongoing enquiries have been progressed.
