Police appeal for witnesses to assault on Riccarton Road

Canterbury Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred at around 8.40am this morning (14 January 2016) on Riccarton Road near the intersection with Clarence Street.

Acting Senior Sergeant Melanie Noonan says the driver of a white van is reported to have approached the driver of a transport truck and threatened him with a metal bar.  “The van driver returned to his vehicle and while leaving the scene collided with the other driver who had got out of his truck.  The truck driver was treated at the scene and did not require transport to Hospital.”

Police investigations are ongoing.

“The driver of the van did not stay at the scene and will be interviewed by Police tomorrow.  We would like to thank the members of the public who have assisted the truck driver at the scene and provide statements to Police” says Acting Senior Sergeant Noonan.

“Police understand that photographs of the incident have been posted on Facebook and urge the public to think before commenting as this could affect our ongoing investigation into this incident.”
