1 min read

At about 11.35pm on Wednesday 23 July 2014 two vehicles collided in a head-on crash.

The first vehicle involved, a Mazda motor vehicle with one occupant, was travelling north on State Highway 2, Mangamutu, 5 km south of Pahiatua township.

At the same time a Ford Falcon station wagon was travelling south with two occupants.

The Ford motor vehicle has crossed the centre-line colliding head-on with the Mazda in the north bound lane.

The 16-year old unlicensed driver of the Ford died at the scene.

A preliminary examination indicates driver inexperience, alcohol, and the condition of the Ford motor vehicle are contributing factors in the crash.

The Serious Crash Unit will continue their investigation today and a Coroners Investigation is also underway.

The female driver of the Mazda is in a serious condition and the male passenger of the Ford is in a moderate condition. Both were taken to Palmerston North Hospital.

The name of the deceased will not be released until such time as he is formally identified and next of kin have been informed.
