At 11.59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020, New Zealand moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

This means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of their household.

During this time Police will continue to provide essential policing services.

UPDATE - Serious crash, Mangatainoka

Police can now confirm two people have died following the serious crash near the intersection of State Highway Two and Mara St, Mangatainoka.

Police were alerted to the two car crash at around 5:45pm. 

Previous reports stated the crash happen on Kohinui Rd and State Highway Two (SH2). Police can now advise the crash happened near the SH2 and Mara St intersection. 

Three other people were injured in the crash, one critically and two seriously.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

The road is closed and diversions are in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
