A 21 year old Polynesian man has appeared in the Waitakere District Court today after an incident in Henderson last night, in which two Police Officers were seriously assaulted.

Alani Taui / ALEFAIO, a labourer, of Henderson, entered no plea when he made a preliminary appearance today on two charges of resisting Police, and two charges of injuring with intent. He has been remanded on bail to reappear in the Waitakere District Court again on 11 July 2006.

A second male, aged 16 years, is yet to appear in the Youth Court.

The two Police Officers are recuperating at home and are in good spirits. They've received wide support from Police management, family, colleagues, friends, and welfare throughout the day.

Their injuries include broken ribs, a suspected broken thumb, severe bruising, plus cuts and abrasions to the face and chin. They are unlikely to resume normal duties for at least a week.
