1 min read

Police continue to search the Avon River today for clues in the death of Christchurch woman Ngatai Manning.

The Police dive team were continuing with their grid search of the Avon River in the area in which Miss Manning was found on Friday morning.

Officer in charge, Detective Inspector Greg Williams said this was to establish exactly where and at what time Miss Manning has gone into the river.

Officers were out last night in the Manchester and Peterborough street area, talking to associates of Miss Manning, who was known to work as a prostitute in the area. Her partner was also spoken to by Police last night.

DI Williams said Police had a possible sighting of Ngatai, who was known as Malorie, at about 10.15pm on Thursday night on the corner of Manchester and Peterborough Streets and had executed a search warrant on a property this morning.

"We are starting to build quite a good picture of her movements but we would still like assistance from the public if they have seen Ngatai or know anything about her movements on Thursday night."

The post mortem is being carried out this morning.

NOTE : a press conference will be held this afternoon, most likely at 2pm but we will advise as soon as possible.
