Burglaries to holiday homes

1 min read

As the holiday season approaches, Police are urging holiday home owners to regularly check on their properties.

It follows reports from holiday home owners who have returned to their beachside properties in Haumoana, Waimarama and Kairakau over the past eight weeks, and discovered they’ve been burgled.

Outdoor furniture is among the items being targeted.

There are several things you can do to help protect your property and possessions, such as implementing as many crime prevention techniques as possible. These include:

• Ensuring all buildings at the address are locked securely
• Keeping all valuable items out of sight and locked away, where possible
• Keeping keys for quads, motorbikes and any other vehicles hidden
• Getting to know any permanent residents and ask them to keep a close eye over your property
• Consider security lighting and alarm systems
• Any boats or vehicles on the property should be disabled so they can’t be moved or towed away
