One person has been taken into custody following an earlier Police operation.
At around 11:50am, emergency services were called to an address on Whangaehu Village Road, north of Marton following reports of a serious assault.
The victim was transported to hospital in a critical condition.
The alleged offender left the scene in a vehicle before Police arrival.
Police located and pursued that vehicle as it travelled towards Foxton, where it was later abandoned on Bergin Road at around 12:40pm.
The man was located and taken into custody in the vicinity of the Foxton Golf Club just before 3:30pm.
Investigations into the assault remain ongoing.
Police are not looking for anybody else in relation to the vehicle abandoned on Bergin Road.
We would like to thank the members of the public for their cooperation while Police worked to locate this man.
Charges are being considered.
