Papakura man in coma following serious assault - witnesses sought

A 19 year-old man from Papakura was seriously assaulted in a Counties Manukau street in the early hours of last Friday morning following an altercation with the occupants of two passing vehicles.

The incident occurred at about 3:20am on Jolson Road in Mt Wellington.

The victim sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

He was operated on that night to relieve the swelling in his brain and continues to be in a drug-induced coma at Auckland Hospital.

Police are urgently seeking information from members of the public to help identify and locate the multiple occupants of the vehicles involved in the assault.

One of the vehicles is described as a green or dark coloured Subaru station-wagon.
