After a sustained attack on a liquor store attendant in Kilbirnie on Tuesday afternoon Police are seeking help to identify the attacker.

Detective Sergeant Sam Mercer says "We are hoping that these new images will help someone recognise him.

"Witnesses who have already come forward have confirmed that the offender was bleeding from his forehead after the attack.

"We are interested in hearing from anyone who saw this male, or who knows someone matching his description, as he would have had a fresh injury to his forehead.

"He was wearing a green sweatshirt with two small emblems on the front and a large 'coat-of-arms' style on the back along with tan-coloured trousers and white Nike shoes.

"Police would also like to encourage anyone who recognises the 'coat-of-arms' style emblem to make contact", says Detective Sergeant Sam Mercer.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to phone Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or to provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
