1 min read

Police have this afternoon arrested the man being sought in relation to the serious assault on an elderly Christchurch couple last Friday.

Police had been looking for 59-year old Douglas James Archer, who they believe has information which will assist in enquiries into the assault.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney says Archer was located and apprehended by a uniformed police patrol in Linwood Park at around 12 midday.

In the course of the arrest, the man is reported to have injured himself with a knife. Ambulance services attended and the man was taken to Christchurch Hospital with superficial injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sweeney says charges are expected to be laid this afternoon.
