1 min read

Police have re-opened one lane on State Highway 1 north of Pukerua Bay after a fatal road crash at 1pm today and a full re-opening is expected shortly.

Inspector John Spence, Kapiti Mana Area Police Commander, said police are still at the scene investigating the cause of the crash between a southbound car and northbound semi trailer truck.

A woman, the sole occupant of the car, was killed in the crash which happened on SH1 not far from the Beach Road intersection. The truck driver has been taken by ambulance to hospital for observation.

Traffic was held up for just over two hours with light traffic diverted over the winding Paekakariki Hill Road. Heavy traffic has been delayed but should be moving shortly.

Inspector Spence said extensive oil and debris covered both lanes. The wreckage and debris has been cleared but peak commuter drivers are urged to be patient and exercise caution.
