Police Release Names

Police have released the names of the two people involved in yesterday's gliding accident near Omarama.

The man who died in the crash was 54-year-old Ichiro Murai of Japan.

Mr Murai was a keen glider pilot who was visiting New Zealand.

The other man involved in the crash, 68-year-old Lemuel Edward Norman Tanner, of England, is in a serious but stable condition in Dunedin Hospital.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said both men were experienced glider pilots.

The CAA is investigating the cause of the crash today.
