Counties Manukau Police are responding to an incident in Papatoetoe after reports from a member of the public at around 9am that a man with a firearm was making threats against his family.
The Armed Offenders Squad is assisting.
Police have since located the man’s family safe and well but are still searching for him in the Papatoetoe and Mangere area. Two firearms have also been recovered.
Schools were put in temporary lock down while the AOS cleared an address but have since reopened.
This incident is unrelated to the death of a child in Onehunga.
There is no further information available at this stage.
