Charges following attempted robbery, Hamilton East

A 37-year-old man has been charged following an attempted robbery in Hamilton East yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to a commercial premises on Clyde Street around 12.05pm on 23 March 2023.

One person allegedly entered the store, armed with a knife  and demanded money from the till.

Police were on-scene five minutes later and arrested the offender.

Thankfully no one was injured during the incident.

The alleged offender is due to appear in Hamilton District Court today charged with demands with attempt to rob, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police would like to thank the members of the public who not only supported the shop owner during and after this ordeal but also provided prompt information to Police which enabled this offender to be arrested within minutes.
