Counties Manukau Police investigating last Friday's attack on the elderly couple in John St, Pukekohe, are calling for information from anyone who may know about the items stolen in the incident.

A number of items of jewellery were stolen during the attack where two offenders searched the house for about an hour while the elderly couple were tied up.

A gold necklace with a gold heart shaped pendant was taken, along with two gold bangles (pictured) and a pair of gold earrings with a round stud (pictured).  A gold ring with nine diamonds set in three rows of three was also stolen.  This ring had red and white coloured diamond stones.

A reasonable sum of Indian currency was also taken in the attack.  It is likely the offenders will attempt to exchange the rupees for New Zealand dollars as soon as possible and Police would like to hear from anyone who has been approached about exchanging the money.

"Anyone who is in the business of exchanging money or buying second hand items and has any reason to suspect that they might have received items that were taken in this attack should contact Police immediately," says Detective Sergeant Malcolm Hassall of Counties Manukau South CIB.  "We'd like to hear from anyone who has any information about the stolen items or the attack."

A team at the Counties Manukau South CIB is following lines of enquiry but information from the community will be of great assistance in solving this case efficiently, he says.

The woman who was hospitalised following the attack has since been released and is recovering from her injuries.

Police advise that homeowners keep vigilant about who they allow on their property.  Do no open the door to someone you don't know and call Police to advise them on any suspicious behaviour.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Hassall on 09 295 0220.  Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
