Rangiora train incident

1 min read

At 9.41pm on Wednesday, 23 March 2016, Tranz Rail advised Police that a south bound goods train traveling through Rangiora had hit a car at the Marsh Road level crossing.

The car had been travelling in a westerly direction prior to the crash. As a result of the crash the car was spun around and ended up several meters from the level crossing. All three occupants were taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Initial indications appear that one of the occupants was ejected from the car as a result of the impact.  This person is currently in Intensive Care.

Police are continuing their enquiries into the cause of this crash, however it is not believed alcohol is a factor.
