A Practical Reference to Religious Diversity
This updated resource provides New Zealand Police members with practical advice on major religions in Aotearoa New Zealand. Including beliefs, gender and family roles, physical contact and other sensitivities, death and mourning practices, and guidance for policing interactions.
The first edition of ‘A Practical Reference to Religious Diversity’ was released in 2005, with the previous update in 2012. This edition reflects extensive consultation which has incorporated contemporary understandings of diversity and inclusion within a policing context in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The content of this booklet is adapted and contextualised from the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) Religious and Spiritual Diversity Guide for Operational Police.
This edition is strengthened by the valuable feedback and insights from community groups who generously contributed their time and perspectives to help enhance this resource. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who offered their meaningful support.
