New Zealand Police seeks feedback from people about the quality of the service they received from us through Our Service, Your Say | Ō Whakaaro, Ā Mātou Mahi. The independent survey was introduced in 2022. Rangahau Aotearoa Research New Zealand conducts the research on behalf of New Zealand Police. The survey is conducted with around 8,000 people throughout the year. Police uses the results to understand people’s service experiences, highlight what we are doing well and identify areas where we can improve.

2024-25 Survey results

Now in its third year of reporting, Our Service, Your Say | Ō Whakaaro, Ā Mātou Mahi continues to measure and monitor the New Zealand public’s perceptions of the quality of service they received when they had recent contact with New Zealand Police.

This year’s report outlines the results of the survey for 2024-25 and is based on the opinions of n=8,081 randomly selected respondents who were surveyed (either online or by telephone) after they had contact with Police.

2023 - 24 Survey results

Our Service, Your Say | Ō Whakaaro, Ā Mātou Mahi measures and monitors the New Zealand public’s perceptions of the quality of the service they received when they had recent contact with New Zealand Police.

This report outlines the results of the 2023-24 survey. It is based on the perceptions of n=8,105 randomly selected respondents who were surveyed (either online or by telephone) after they had contact with Police.

2022 - 23 Survey results

This report outlines the results of the Our Service, Your Say | Ō Whakaaro, Ā Mātou Mahi 2022-23 survey. It is based on the perceptions of n=8,056 randomly selected respondents who were surveyed (either online or by telephone) after they had contact with Police.

 

This survey will collect information from people who have had contact with Police in the previous six months about that experience. It will run from 1 July 2022 until 30 June 2028.

 

We publish the survey results annually on this page.

 

Your survey responses will help Police identify areas in which it can improve its services to the public. You do not have to take part in the survey. It is your choice. We hope you decide to share your experiences through taking part.

 

We will be asking a range of questions about people’s experiences of their recent contact with Police, such as:

  • satisfaction with the overall quality of the service provided
  • agreement or disagreement with some service-related statements (such as “Staff did what they said they would do”)
  • expectations of the quality of the service compared with actual quality of service received
  • reason for the recent contact
  • some demographic questions

 

People who are asked to take part in the survey will come from two sources, some from an online panel of people who will be asked if they have had recent contact with Police, and others from a randomly selected sample of people who we already know have had recent contact (for example, by calling the Police 105 phone line or using the 105 online service).

Police will provide Research New Zealand with the names and contact details of people in the latter sample. There are strict protocols around how this information is transmitted and stored to ensure it is kept secure and private, and it will only be used for the purpose of the survey. It will not include anyone who has been involved in a serious crime.

 

Only those who have had contact with Police in the previous six months will be asked to take part in the survey.

 

Research New Zealand will contact people to ask whether they’ve had recent contact with Police and, if they have, to arrange a suitable date and time to interview them over the phone. Alternatively, the survey can be done online.

Up to 10-15 minutes, depending on your answers.

 

Your survey responses will be strictly confidential between you and Research New Zealand. Police will not know who has and who has not taken part in the survey. Research New Zealand will only provide Police with the survey results in aggregate form and with comments anonymised.

No survey participant will be directly or indirectly identifiable in any data or written reporting that Research New Zealand provides to Police.
