Police have charged a man after locating a large amount of drugs and cash during a traffic stop in North Dunedin last night.
Around 10.30pm, Police saw a suspicious vehicle driving around the North Dunedin student area, where hundreds of students were believed to be celebrating Re-O’ Week.
The driver stopped on Dundas Street and when officers approached, they were greeted by the smell of cannabis wafting from the car, leading to a search of its interior. As a result, Police located and seized amounts of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, cannabis, and a large quantity of cash.
Senior Sergeant Adelle Williams says getting these drugs off the street is a great result for the community.
“Majority of the drugs seized was already divided, packaged, and ready for sale.
“The amount of social harm this could have caused is significant. I am really pleased that we were able to intercept this before it got into the hands of people in our community,” says Senior Sergeant Williams.
The 26-year-old man is due in Dunedin District Court today, charged with possession of cocaine for supply, possession of cannabis for supply, and two counts of possession of drugs for supply.
“Police will continue to work hard to disrupt the supply of drugs in our communities, and we urge anyone with information on, or suspicions of, this type of offending to please contact us.”
For drug related offending, or any other criminal or suspicious behaviour, happening now please call 111 immediately.
Non-urgent information can be reported through 105, either online or over the phone, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
