Police Commissioner Rob Robinson today announced twelve senior management appointments.
Mr Robinson said that the new appointments recognise a focus on Police capability to address key issues such as organised crime, methamphetamine, Auckland policing and Pacific security issues.
"We have taken the opportunity to make appointments which recognise the strengths and talents of the individuals involved. In conjunction with the ongoing members of the senior management ranks we now have a team to lead New Zealand Police towards further achievements in crime and crash reduction," said Mr Robinson.
The new appointments are:

"The promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Howard Broad and Peter Marshall to central leadership roles in the Commissioner’s Office are significant appointments.
"Mr Broad has successfully led key service improvements in Auckland City District since 1999 and has a wealth of operational experience to bring to bear on his new role to develop improvements in Police service capability and staff deployment. Peter Marshall has been a very effective liaison officer in Washington since the September 11 attacks. His previous operational experience will assist in bringing a new focus to the Police drive for crime and crash reduction and public safety.
"Coordination of policing across metropolitan Auckland would be significantly strengthened with Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards having prime oversight of the three Auckland districts. There will also be an added impetus with Ted Cox formally leading the groups tackling organised crime and drugs, especially methamphetamine.
"The appointment of Superintendent John Kelly to the new position of NZ Police Head of Pacific Projects highlights the strategic importance of Pacific security issues as being of critical importance to New Zealand Police. He will provide valuable coordination across the range of interests we have with partner agencies working in and around the region."
Commissioner Robinson said the new appointments had been drawn from a considerable pool of rising talent, which was the sign of an organisation in good health.
All the new District Commander appointments are effective from 1 January 2004. Consequential vacancies will be advertised in the near future.
