Police act on report recommendations

1 min read

Police have instigated action on recommendations made in the Commissioner for Children’s report on the investigation into the deaths of Saliel and Olympia Aplin said Superintendent Steve Christian, National Manager for Youth Services.

" Action is being taken on issues raised in the report, such as reinforcement of the interagency protocol between Police and Child, Youth and Family through a series of workshops currently being held around the country for local staff," said Superintendent Christian

"We acknowledge the report and note there are some areas where, in hindsight, we could have done better."

Earlier this year the Police Commissioner restated in communications to all staff the policy and procedures relating to the application of the protocol.

The focus is on the issue of developing the capability and procedures to bring together vital case information to enable an assessment of the level of risk to children living in violent homes.

Superintendent Christian said Police are now working on developing risk assessment criteria for staff involved in dealing with family violence.
