Woman arrested after baby found

1 min read

A 10 month-old baby girl, missing from her Auckland home since she was put in the care of a female family friend for a short while last evening, has been found in Ngaruawahia this evening.

Auckland City Police were notified she was missing this afternoon and, just as the search for her was about to go public, she was found at a Ngaruawahia address shortly before 6pm.

"Early indications are that she is safe and well but she will be examined by medical professionals so that we can be sure that she is," Detective Senior Sergeant John Tims said.

"She will be returned to her family, who have been very anxious about her wellbeing, as soon as possible."

A 25 year-old Auckland woman has been arrested and will face court charges tomorrow. The investigation into the circumstances of the baby’s disappearance is continuing.
