Operation Burn2

1 min read

An operation on Auckland's North Shore using high profile policing through the day and early hours of the morning resulted in 53 arrests.

"Operation Burn2," followed on from the success of a similar operation by the same name two months ago. North Shore Operations Manager, Inspector Les Paterson says, "This type of operation will continue on the North Shore in the future with increased regularity, as we focus on crime and crash reduction."

The operation ran for four days last week and staff undertook a range of activities. There was an emphasis on patrolling high risk areas, roadside checkpoints, the execution of warrants and bail and curfew checks

The arrests were for a variety of offences including; burglary, assault, theft, sexual offending and breaching bail conditions. Follow up inquiries are expected to result in further arrests.

Inspector Paterson says, "Checkpoints were just one visible part of the operation that involved Road Policing as well as support from CIB staff to deal with any criminal matters that may arise." There was also an increased emphasis on checking that those on court bail were sticking to conditions, such as curfews, that were set down by the court," says Inspector Paterson."
